West Ham are edging closer to completing the highly unpopular signing of Callum Wilson on a free transfer.
In what is being widely seen as a ‘David Sullivan signing’, the former Newcastle forward looks set to put pen to paper on a short-term deal – understood to be a year with an option for a second, which is a heavily appearance based incentivised deal.
Despite the structure of the contract, there are serious question marks as to why this is the road the club are taking, with other options available and a manager in Graham Potter who is clearly eager to bring about a new chapter of younger and hungrier players in east London.
Wilson, who is being labeled as a replacement for Danny Ings, has a dreadful injury record, having missed 29 matches last season for the Toon Army.
West Ham will be hoping his role will mean he’ll stay injury free and be a useful addition from the bench. However, it will take some time for many to be convinced that this has been a wise move this summer.
