Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres as Barcelona and Arsenal are no longer interested in him.
The Red Devils have had a frustrating start to the Premier League campaign, which has been largely due to their poor finishing. They have netted only 12 goals in 11 games.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have misfired up front, and new manager Ruben Amorim could target another marquee striker next summer if the duo don’t improve.
Arsenal and Barcelona have been linked with Gyokeres but are reportedly no longer interested in signing him.
Barcelona sporting director Deco recently said that the club is happy with Robert Lewandowski, and they are not considering Gyokeres despite his scoring record.
Arsenal have been linked with Gyokeres for some time, but Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is the number one forward target for manager Mikel Arteta.
United could potentially have a free run at signing Gyokeres, who has established himself as one of the most fearsome strikers in world football over the past 18 months.
The 26-year-old was sensational in his debut campaign for Sporting with 43 goals and 15 assists in 51 games. He has bagged 23 goals and four assists in 18 outings this term.
Gyokeres has proved that he is not a one-season wonder, and United could seriously consider reuniting him with Amorim if Hojlund and Zirkzee continue to struggle.
He has a £83 million release clause in his contract, but Sporting are ready to sell him for £63m next summer.
