United draw up plans to complete £145m double-swoop of in-form Serie A pair after scouts watch them in action

While keeping tabs on how academy graduate Scott McTominay is faring since his move to Napoli, two of his teammates have caught the eye of Manchester United scouts.

INEOS executives are already drawing up plans for upcoming transfer windows after their £200 million+ splurge in the summer has yet to make an impact on the club’s performances and, therefore, the Premier League standings. Compared to this time last season, the Reds are three places worse off after the opening eight matches.

You could argue that the most pivotal change of all – which is almost certain to have instant ramifications on the pitch – is with the manager. Reports continue to suggest that Erik ten Hag is hanging on by a thread in the Old Trafford dugout, with their forthcoming run of fixtures all deemed must-win if he has any chance of seeing in the new year at the helm.

Nonetheless, club scouts remain doing their job across Europe in search of potential acquisitions who could bolster the squad considerably. Having recently attended Serie A matches, they’ve landed on Napoli duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Alessandro Buongiorno, per MailSport.

It’s not the first time that Kvaratskhelia, a Georgian international, has found himself linked to the Reds. Similarly, he was reportedly targeted by Manchester City towards the end of last year, at the time being quoted a fee of around £87 million to get a deal over the line.

On the other hand, Buongiorno, 25, only arrived in Naples in the most recent transfer window for £33m. However, after learning of rumoured transfer interest, it’s become clear that Napoli would demand £58m to sanction his exit so soon after his move from Torino.

United are seemingly drawing up plans to bolster the backline in 2025, as all of Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire are poised to leave the club upon the expiration of their contracts next June – although the latter does have a one-year option embedded into his terms.
