Inter Milan keeper Yann Sommer has earned unflattering comparisons to former Nerazzurri captain Samir Hadnaovic for his display against Monterrey.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, take aim at the Swiss’s unconvincing saves and presence between the posts in the Club World Cup group stage opener.

Yann Sommer took up his usual position in goal for Inter Milan against Monterrey.

The Swiss veteran allowed in one goal, from Sergio Ramos from a corner. He had a fair bit of time to watch the Monterrey defender’s header, but he couldn’t dive quickly enough.

Sommer allowed the header to creep in at the bottom far post.

The fact that Yann Sommer allowed Ramos to head home so easily was not an ideal signal in the first match of the Club World Cup.

The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper was one of Inter’s outstanding players in the Champions League.

However, Sommer looked a bit out of sorts against Monterrey.

Even the saves that the 36-year-old did make did not entirely convince. He frequently was only able to deflect the ball back into dangerous areas.

Tuttosport draw a parallel to the last two or three seasons that Samir Hadnanovic had at Inter.

The Slovenian had been absolutely outstanding in terms of of his shot-stopping for many years.

However, there were clear signs of decline and inconsistency towards the end. And in the view of Tuttosport, that kind of trajectory was evident from Sommer.
