Jay Stansfield has opened up on discussions he's had with Jobe Bellingham about Birmingham City.

Jay Stansfield has revealed that Jobe Bellingham still loves to chat about Birmingham City with him following his move to Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder has officially joined the German giants after helping Sunderland gain promotion to the Premier League.

It was reported by The Athletic that the 19-year-old has been signed in a deal worth up to €38 (£32.3) million, having departed Birmingham in 2023 for a reported £3 million.

Bellingham came through the ranks of the Blues’ academy system, and even made 24 league appearances for the club before moving to the Stadium of Light two years ago.

Stansfield has opened up on his relationship with Bellingham and how the now Borussia Dortmund midfielder feels about Birmingham, as the Blues striker looks to help England's U21 side defend their European Championship crown in Slovakia this summer.

He claimed that the youngster still talks about the Midlands outfit regularly, and has nothing but nice things to say about the club.

“Jobe loves to talk about Birmingham to me, so it’s good to hear about Birmingham from someone who had been there since such a young age,” said Stansfield, via Birmingham Live.

“An unbelievable guy and a solid midfielder, too.”

Stansfield joined Birmingham on a permanent basis last year after previously spending the 2023/24 season at St. Andrew’s on loan from Premier League side Fulham.

The 22-year-old scored 19 times in League One in 2024/25, as Chris Davies’ side clinched the League One title in emphatic style with a 111-point haul.

Birmingham’s Championship preparation

The signing of Stansfield earned a lot of attention last summer due to his arrival costing a reported £15 million, a record fee for a League One side.

However, his goals were vitally important in helping the Blues earn a record points total of 111 on their way to promotion straight back to the Championship.

Davies will now be tasked with guiding the team to a competitive level in the second tier straight away, as the ambitious Birmingham owners set their sights on a Premier League return in the near future.

Stansfield has a contract with the Midlands outfit until the summer of 2031.

Jobe Bellingham will always be welcome at Birmingham

Bellingham is the latest Birmingham City academy graduate to make a big-money move, with the youngster following in his brother Jude’s footsteps by signing for Dortmund.

The 19-year-old has a bright career ahead of him, but will no doubt always have some attachment to Birmingham.

He is someone that will be remembered fondly by Blues supporters, who will continue to cheer on his success long after his departure from the club.

The fact that he’s been discussing the club with Stansfield at international level, shows he still has a great deal of love for the Championship side.
