The final two weeks of the summer transfer window will see Manchester City bid to trim the size of Pep Guardiola’s squad. Pep Guardiola spoke of the need for City to let players leave to maintain squad harmony throughout the 25/26 season. James McAtee completed a permanent move to Nottingham Forest after Manchester City’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux to continue that process.
Now Claudio Echeverri and Sverre Nypan have completed, or are on the verge of completing, loan moves to Bayer Leverkusen and Middlesbrough, respectively. Young defender Callum Doyle is also close to signing for Wrexham. If and Echeverri and Doyle join Sverre Nypan in leaving Manchester City for next season the size of Pep Guardiola’s squad will continue to dwindle.
Manchester City have confirmed that Sverre Nypan will spend the 25/26 season on loan at Middlesbrough. It was expected that Nypan would go out on loan after signing for City from Rosenberg.
It will be interesting to see how Sverre Nypan performs in the Championship. A move to Middlesbrough should be the ideal platform for Nypan to adjust to life in English football. The Championship is a quality league where Nypan should be able to test himself as a player. If Nypan can become an important player at Middlesbrough, it should set him up for a prosperous career in England. Sverre Nypan figures to be a prominent player for Manchester City in the future. How he performs this season will be worth keeping an eye on.
Fabrizio Romano had reported that Claudio Echeverri is set to join Bayer Leverkusen for the 25/26 season. Furthermore, Romano reports that there is no buy option included in Echeverri’s loan move to Bayer Leverkusen. Romano further reports that Leverkusen will cover Claudio Echeverri’s wages for next season.
By joining Bayer Leverkusen for next season, Claudio Echeverri should be able to play first-team football this season. There is a creative void in the Leverkusen squad. Florian Wirtz’s summer move to Liverpool has left an opening in Erik ten Hag’s squad. It is now up to Echeverri to seize the opportunity on offer.
Jordan Campbell has reported for The Athletic that Callum Doyle is on the verge of completing a permanent move to Wrexham for £8 million. Furthermore, Campbell reports that Sheffield United and Rangers wanted to sign Doyle. But he seems to be on the verge of signing for Wrexham.
Callum Doyle needs a permanent move to grow as a player. There would seemingly be little chance of Doyle becoming a consistent player at Manchester City. Given Manchester City’s plethora of centre-backs, there is no chance of Doyle breaking into the fold. A move to Wrexham gives Doyle a fresh start and the opportunity to take the next steps in his career.
Manchester City is continuing to trim their squad before the summer transfer window closes. It figures to be a busy end to the transfer window for the club. There are likely to be more departures from the club. Who else could leave remains to be seen. But there will be further departures outside of Claudio Echeverri and Sverre Nypan.
