The FC Barcelona dressing room experienced a highly tragic and unfortunate event on Saturday as one of the first team doctors, Dr. Carles Minarro, passed away in what was a shock for the whole Blaugrana club.
The fact that the doctor took his last breath in the team hotel made the situation even more traumatic for the members of the Catalan team, which was preparing for a La Liga match against Osasuna on the same day. This game was ultimately postponed and it is yet to be decided when it will be played.
This was an unprecedented event for most members of the Barcelona team, and Mundo Deportivo has reported how some of these members were affected by this tragic death.
This was a testing time for Hansi Flick in particular, as it was him who had to manage the delicate situation, being in charge of the team. The German coach made the right decision to let it become known to the doctor’s family about Dr Minarro’s passing, and thus, only President Joan Laporta was informed of the situation.
In fact, the players were still not aware of the tragic news as they made their way to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium for the match against Osasuna.
But even beyond the responsibility of handling such a delicate situation, it was a big loss for the Barcelona head coach, as he had full trust in Dr. Minarro’s abilities.
Similarly, another person who must have felt the most impact of this tragic event would be Dr. Ricard Pruna, the in-charge of the Blaugrana medical team under whom the late doctor worked. Dr Pruna also blindly trusted Dr. Minarro, both because of his professional and personal characteristics.
Among the players, Dani Olmo was one of the most affected as he had known the deceased doctor for years. His father, himself a professional coach, had worked with Dr. Minarro in two of his teams, while the late medic was also the doctor for Olmo’s family.
Similarly, Gavi was also unable to hold back his tears when he learned of this loss. This was understandable, the way the late doctor had cared for him when he suffered a blow to his head in the recent game against Alaves.
