AC Milan are keeping Paulo Fonseca under evaluation after a poor start to the season in the league, and they may just have a get-out option.
According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews) this morning, the Verona game could have been an important turning point for Milan’s season and Fonseca’s future, but – as has often happened in recent months – the team won when under pressure.
This will postpone any judgment until further notice. Now the Rossoneri have the obligation to start the chase for at least fourth place, in order to achieve the minimum objective for this season, with Roma coming to San Siro on Sunday.
The final evaluation of Fonseca’s work will be made based around finishing in the Champions League places. A sacking would only become a feasible idea only when things were to get further complicated during the season and that objective were to vanish.
Tuttosport confirm the news reported first by Relevo, who stated that Milan can terminate the agreement with the Portuguese coach early. By paying a certain amount – variable from season to season and already pre-established – they will be able to end the relationship with Fonseca.
The former Lille coach earns €2.5m net per year, and it means Milan would have the possibility of changing coach without having one on the payroll. A dismissal during the season, on the other hand, would require a possible agreement between the two parties to immediately end the deal.
