Sergio Conceicao has had a very intense four months at AC Milan, and yet he wants to try and continue his adventure beyond the summer.

Despite a fate that seems sealed, given all of the reports that the former Porto boss will leave at the end of the season, he wants to earn a stay at Milan. Even if, after the derby, something in the perception seems to have moved slightly.

There was the arrival in grand style with a cigar in his mouth after having won a sensational Supercoppa Italiana win by coming from behind Juventus and Inter. Then nothing, or almost nothing, in the league and the Champions League.

The results – ones that took Milan far from the top four in the standings and out of the UCL after losing to Feyenoord – is what he may end up paying for. Wednesday night’s derby win over Inter, a fourth without defeat for Conceicao, has meant Milan are one game away from a second trophy.

Would winning this cup be enough? If nothing else, it would enhance his five months in red and black, it would be two trophies in the same season, something that hasn’t been seen around here since the 2007-08 season.

Even matching a feat not done since Carlo Ancelotti’s time would not be enough to guarantee that he remains, especially because the new sporting director will play a fundamental role and will probably want to put their stamp on things. The Portuguese wants to try, by raising another trophy to the sky.
