Hakan Calhanoglu is ready to go again with Inter Milan after chats with coach Cristian Chivu and captain Lautaro Martinez.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

This summer has not been without controversy for Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

The 31-year-old had been strongly linked with Galatasaray for quite a few weeks. The Turkish champions had reportedly sounded out a move with the player, who was keen.

However, Galatasaray have failed to convince Inter. They made the Nerazzurri an offer, it was nowhere near the asking price, and that appears to be the end of it.

Next week, Hakan Calhanoglu returns to training as Inter Milan kick off their preseason.

The Turk will be one of the players to return early. As with players like Benjamin Pavard, Yann Bisseck, and Piotr Zielinski he was out with injury during the Club World Cup.

Therefore, Calhanoglu will report to training from his vacation before the majority of the squad.

There is the risk of the former AC Milan midfielder coming back under something of a dark cloud.

That would be because of the tension that his highly public transfer saga caused with some of his teammates.

Most notably when Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez all but called Calhanoglu out publicly.

Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”

But behind the scenes, Calhanoglu has already had a frank discussion with new Inter coach Cristian Chivu.

Chivu faces one of the first real tests of his dressing room leadership with Calhanoglu. And so the 44-year-old has had a chat with the player, to clear the air and avoid a full-blown crisis.

Calhanoglu, the Gazzetta report, has affirmed his commitment to the Inter project. He’s ready to start work to find his place in a new-look midfield under Chivu.

Meanwhile, Calhanoglu has also exchanged messages with Inter captain Martinez. This is the start of what Inter will obviously hope is a real reconciliation after their public spat.
