Wilfrid Kaptoum finds a new landing spot

Without a club since January after leaving Panserraikos in Greece, Wilfrid Kaptoum has just secured a new destination.

The Cameroonian midfielder has signed with Gimnàstic Tarragona, a Spanish third division club, on a one-year contract with an option for a second year.

The 29-year-old is returning to a country he knows well, having made his footballing debut there. He joined the “Barça FootBase” academy in 2009 after coming from the “Samuel Eto’o” academy.

Once considered a great hope of Cameroonian football, Wilfrid Kaptoum never managed to fulfill the career that was predicted for him.

The native of Douala played across various age categories for Barça and even made three appearances for the first team between 2015 and 2016, notably facing Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Since leaving Barça in 2018, he has had stints with Real Betis, UD Almería, New England, UD Las Palmas, AEK Larnaca, and Panserraikos, but never truly left his mark.
