In a recent report, AS revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios. It has been stated that Spurs would have to compete with Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace in the race to land the Colombian talent this summer.
Rios has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Brazilian club as he has been responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has scored four goals and picked up a couple of assists in 32 matches for Palmeiras this season across various competitions.
The Colombian midfielder has done well to make 11 tackles, 17 blocks and 8 interceptions in the Brazilian Serie A this season. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 81.7% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian first division (stats via fbref.com).
Rios’ current contract at the Brazilian club will run out at the end of 2028. Therefore, Spurs would have to make a big offer if they want to stand a chance of recruiting him this summer.

Rios is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is an accurate distributor of the ball.
Standing at 1.87, the Colombian sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. However, there are some question marks over whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to bring him on board in this summer transfer period.
Rios would no doubt add more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s midfield. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team place at the North London club next season.
At 25, Rios has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Tottenham to pursue this off-season. All in all, Frank would be wise to go for a player of his quality this summer.
