In a recent report, BBC Sport mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in pursuit of the Congolese centre-forward this off-season.

Wissa’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football

Wissa enjoyed a productive campaign in the Premier League recently after he put in a handful of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The 28-year-old found the back of the net on 20 occasions and earned five assists in 39 matches for the Bees last season across multiple competitions.

The Congolese talent led the line well as he averaged 2.77 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 45.6% of his attempts on target. Wissa has even been tidy when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 76.5% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the English club will expire at the end of next season. Hence, Tottenham could potentially snap him up on a cut-price deal this summer.

Is Wissa A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?

Wissa is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in on target and has proven himself to be a capable finisher in the final third.

The Congolese talent has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates up top. Wissa is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area. The Brentford star already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at Tottenham. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a winger on either flank if told to do so.

We can expect Wissa to bring a lot of firepower to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s frontline. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.

At 28, Wissa is playing in his prime which makes him a decent option for Spurs to consider in this summer transfer window. However, Frank should only move in for him if he is planning to play him regularly in the Premier League.
