Players looking fit and at it, and some positives to take forward into next weekend.

It’s not all doom and gloom at Newcastle you know…’

John Martin:

‘It is stating the obvious that we need more signings than just Elanga and Ramsdale.

Especially if that lad from Sweden heads off…

However, not the worst thing in the world if at times this season we end up with a forward three of Barnes, Gordon and Elanga (or Murphy).

Anthony Gordon was man of the match in his striker/free role, caused Spurs load of problems.’

Simon Ritter:

‘Did this kickabout honestly justify the biggest outpouring of emotion since the death of Princess Diana? Or was Son’s protracted departure the reason for this match?

So much to dislike during events in Seoul, though there was also plenty to enjoy in United’s performance.

Every starter got a good run-out, the defence was generally sound and the wide players swapped roles impressively.

Two big pluses: Hall got a few minutes in his legs and no United player seemed unduly hurt by the physical attention of their opponents.’

David Punton:

‘Pre-season is a bit like the twilight zone, but at least we emerge from this long haul trip with a bit of fight.

A deserved draw.

We now head back to the UK.

The hope now has to be that the club can get some players signed pretty damn quickly.’

Sam Hepworth:

‘A quality team goal, well worth making sure you see it.

A reminder that Newcastle United might not be in too much of a crisis.

The Isak situation obviously needs sorting and more signings needed in these next four weeks.

This game today and the Arsenal match seeing United more than hold their own.

Should have won against Tottenham and deserved a draw at least against Arsenal.

If Eddie Howe has pretty much everybody fit (Willock already crocked) for the start of the season and with the striker situation sorted one way or the other, I can see a promising start to the season is more than possible.

Not pretending everything is suddenly ok on and off the pitch but NUFC do have a number of very good players.’

Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey:

‘I saw the second half which is 45 minutes more than any of the other pre-season friendlies.

The positives are that we ended our losing streak, nobody got injured and we’ll be back on Tyneside soon.

Let’s hope Eddie being more proximate can make a difference on the Isak (and Sesko) front.

Otherwise, I’m not terribly sure what to make of it.

Murphy looked lively but his end product is still awful, it was good to see Hall back and Joelinton, combative as ever – just ask Archie Gray. I hope we reignite the Scalvini interest as our back line was exposed more than once.

Having visited Seoul recently, it is an amazing place and the people are excellent.

The stadium was packed out and I heard more toon songs, although the renditions of “nice one Cyril” and “when the saints” reverberating around the stadium made my chuckle. Hats off to the young lad with the trumpet, no pressure!

Final points. The lesser spotted Gillespie was spotted between the sticks (why?) and does anyone else think Tommy Frank looks like the head chef, Carmy from The Bear?’

Tony Mallabar:

‘With Soof Korea being a few hours ahead of us, I had the privilege of getting woken up at 3.13am this morning as one of wor lot who’s owa there decided I needed to see some random tourist pictures he’d taken. Thanks Flavel.

As for the match a 1-1 draw which was overshadowed by it being Son’s swansong.

Which brings me onto our own wantaway/staying forward Mr Isak.

Don’t get me wrong, ice cold Alex is/was a cracking player for us, as was Son for spurs, but players move on, times change.

To put this into perspective, 40 years ago this week, I was on the Isle of Man to watch us beat Wigan 4-1 in a pre season friendly and now we’re being feted for games halfway around the world.’

Newcastle team v Tottenham:

Nick Pope (Mark Gillespie 82); Kieran Trippier (Lewis Hall 75), Fabian Schär (Emil Krafth 82), Dan Burn, Matt Targett (Tino Livramento 60); Bruno Guimarães, Lewis Miley, Joelinton(Travis Hernes 85); Jacob Murphy (Seung-soo Park 75), Anthony Gordon (Will Osula 60), Harvey Barnes (Anthony Elanga 82)
