FROM TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM - A late onslaught of pressure wasn't enough for Tottenham Hotspur to avoid a 2-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
The contest was not yet five minutes old by the time Elliot Anderson swatted the visitors into a somewhat fortuitous lead. A kind break of the ball saw it ricochet into Anderson's path in the first place before the midfielder's spinning effort was deflected beyond Guglielmo Vicario.
Spurs had the rub of the green when Chris Wood's right ear was judged to be offside but no amount of good fortune could prevent the Kiwi producing a signature header for his 19th Premier League goal of the season in the 17th minute.
Tottenham were not without their own openings in a peformance which was more impressive than the scoreline may suggest. Forest boasted the efficiency which Spurs so desperately lacked, scoring with two of their first three shots of the match. Richarlison's header to halve the deficit in the 87th minute was Tottenham's 20th attempt of the contest.
Defeat for Spurs - their fifth in seven league games - leaves the Europa League semi-finalists mired in 16th place, just one point adrift of West Ham United in the final spot above the relegation zone. Forest, by contrast, climbed back into the division's top three.
