One top source has claimed that new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has already chosen his number one goalkeeper at Chelsea for next season and beyond.

Surprisingly it doesn’t look like Chelsea are at the moment looking to sign a new goalkeeper, which for me and many other Chelsea fans out there, would be a huge mistake.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea now keen on signing versatile Bayern Munich attacker this summer! 👀

Djordje Petrovic is solid but I’m unconvinced with him playing out from the back. Robert Sanchez can be good but also proved last season that he is inconsistent and also liable with the ball at his feet.

If Chelsea really want to push on this season and challenge at the very top again, then a new goalkeeper should really be deemed as one of the most important positions to sign in.

However, instead of doing that, so far anyway, it looks like Maresca is happy to continue with what he has already.

Sanchez to get his number one spot back?

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, it is anticipated that Robert Sánchez will start as Enzo Maresca’s first-choice goalkeeper and he will be expected to perform a similar role to that of Ederson at City and the one Mads Hermansen mastered at Leicester last season.

Personally, I don’t think this is something that is nailed on for the season and my hope is that Maresca and Chelsea will go into pre-season using Sanchez and then quickly realising that he can not be the ball-playing goalkeeper that they want for Maresca’s style of football, and then they dip back into the market late on in the window.

I mean, Sanchez even lost his number one spot to Petrovic last season and now he’s going to come back in and be number one again? Come off it!

It will be interesting to now see what happens with the goalkeeper position.
