Ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana finale between AC Milan and Inter this evening, Fikayo Tomori spoke to the media. He admitted that winning tonight’s clash could change the season for the Rossoneri.

Tomori is making his second consecutive start for the first time in a while tonight as Sergio Conceicao has placed a lot of faith in him. A much-needed confidence boost for the Englishman, even if Matteo Gabbia’s struggles with the flu probably influenced the decision.

Speaking to Mediaset ahead of tonight’s game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Tomori shared his thoughts on the importance of winning. He made it clear that it could change the season, while also praising Conceicao for his impact thus far.

You’ve already beaten Inter this season, how can you repeat that?

“We have to be strong in the duels and score more goals than them. The last match doesn’t count, today is a final, a one-off match. We know they are strong and we have to play a good match to win.”

Can winning tonight change the season?

“Every win, every trophy is a point of reference to change the season. We haven’t had the season we wanted so far, today there is the opportunity to win a trophy: if we win tonight it can change the season.”

What impact has Conciecao had?

“The coach is doing a good job in this short period of time, I’m focused on myself and helping the team: when the coach asks me to play I do everything to win.”

In addition to the bragging rights, tonight’s winner will also collect more in prize money as this is another reason to fight for the trophy. Hopefully, Tomori and Malick Thiaw will perform at their best against a strong Inter attack.
