May starts for us in Marassi, where Patrick Vieira's Genoa (an ex-Rossonero) will be waiting for us on Matchday 35. It will be our penultimate away game of the season, and it will be the first of our four last games of the Serie A 2024/25 season (Bologna, Roma and Monza to follow). We are returning to Genoa after beating them last time in Liguria thanks to Pulisic's goal in the Rossoneri's memorable win on 7 October 2023, when Maignan got sent off late and Giroud had to step up between the sticks.
It was the first meeting between the two sides since Il Grifone's relegation in 2021/22 and their return to Serie A in 2023/24, after a single season in Serie B. This season, our return fixture finished 0-0 at San Siro and it was also the day of celebrations for 125 years of our Club. To celebrate this rivalry, let's look back to 2007/08 and to the first game of a new Serie A season. It's 26 August 2007 and Ancelotti's Rossoneri, fresh off of winning the Champions League only three months earlier, began the new season in Marassi against the Rossoblù under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini.
The game started immediately well for us as Massimo Ambrosini put us ahead in the 21st minute, heading home, the first time, from Pirlo's cross. The Rossoneri then practically sealed the match in the first half when Kaká made it two in the 44th minute, finishing off a great ball from Oddo from deep. It was wrapped up in the first half - and in the match - in the 48th minute, when Gilardino won a penalty which Kaká then coolly slotted home. 3-0 AC Milan, starting off the league in the best way possible.
