As news broke yesterday of Samuele Ricci signing a contract extension with Torino it looked like another potential target was off the table for Manchester City. With Ricci unavailable, it did leave you wondering just who could City be targeting in January. Now, three new reports have emerged, and it appears that Manchester City’s targets have been revealed. The three players named are Atalanta midfielder Ederson, Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush and Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov. All three players would immediately bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad if City could land them all this month.

Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Omar Marmoush and Ederson have emerged as transfer targets for Manchester City. But as Gaughan reports signing the pair will be no easy task. Atalanta are top of Serie A and chasing their first-ever league title. Ederson is a vital player in their chase for history and plays a vital role in the heart of their midfield. Marmoush has starred up front for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. With his goal scoring, versatility and creativity he’d add a different dimension to City’s play. He has a key role to play in Eintracht Frankfurt’s bid to secure Champions League football for next season. But both players would perfectly complement Manchester City’s squad if they could land them both. Martin Blackburn has also reported for The Sun that Ederson and Marmoush are two of City’s January transfer targets. Blackburn adds that both players are valued at around £50 million.

The third player named today as a potential Manchester City target is Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov. Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Manchester City are one of several clubs monitoring the young defender. Khusanov has impressed for Lens so far this season.

The challenge for Manchester City would be to land all three players in January, but if they did, it would massively improve City’s squad.

It hasn’t taken long for three transfer targets to emerge for Manchester City. We now have three reliable reports indicating who the world champions could be targeting this month. The challenge now is for City to land the players they have been linked with. That will be no easy task but each player named would massively improve Pep Guardiola’s squad.

In the case of Marmoush and Ederson, they do appear to be difficult targets to sign this month. As mentioned above, both players are integral players for Eintracht Frankfurt and Atalanta, respectively. But perhaps there is something there for Manchester City to chase. At this stage, there has been nothing to suggest that Marmoush and Ederson aren’t attainable transfer targets. Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes were previously linked as potential targets for Manchester City. But as Jack Gaughan has previously reported for the Daily Mail both players aren’t on City’s radar this month. That does give hope that perhaps both players could arrive at the Etihad this month. But there is a lot to play out before that becomes reality.

In the case of Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, he could be a shrewd signing for Manchester City. At 20 years of age, he has his best football in front of him. Khusanov has impressed for Lens and he fits the profile of what City need at the back. Pep Guardiola’s squad needs cover at the back, and Khusanov could provide that. He is also good enough to play now and develop into a quality player in the future. It now remains to be seen if City move for the Lens defender this month.

Summary

Omar Marmoush, Ederson and Abdukodir Khusanov would immediately improve Manchester City’s squad. Now it remains to be seen if all three are attainable this month. But if they are City’s squad would be a lot stronger. That’s the aim of the January transfer window for the world champions. Now we wait to see if do move for the three players named today as potential targets. It hasn’t taken long for Manchester City’s reported January transfer targets to emerge. Now the hard work begins for City to sign three players who could potentially bolster their stocks for the remainder of this season and beyond.
