In a season defined by dominance, resilience and a rejuvenated tactical vision, Liverpool’s triumph in the Premier League has now been punctuated by individual recognition. Three of the Reds’ most influential figures — Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch — have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award.
For Arne Slot, it’s vindication of a philosophy that has married intensity with intelligence. Taking the reins from Jürgen Klopp in the summer of 2024 was always going to be a high-wire act. But delivering the Premier League title in his first campaign, and with four games to spare, has written a new chapter in Liverpool’s illustrious history.
At 32, Mohamed Salah is no longer the lightning bolt that tore through defences in his debut season — but he is arguably a more complete, efficient version of himself. In a side with renewed balance, Salah’s ability to dictate tempo in the final third, find space where none exists, and deliver decisive moments has never felt more invaluable.

This nomination is his second for the award, which he previously won in the 2017-18 season. And while the numbers continue to impress, it’s the consistency and leadership that set him apart. In the moments when Liverpool wobbled — rare though they were this season — Salah was the one to restore calm.
After enduring a patchy 2023-24 campaign, Virgil van Dijk has returned with a vengeance. Not merely the anchor of Liverpool’s defence, the Dutchman has reasserted himself as the Premier League’s most commanding centre-back.

Positioning, anticipation, composure — they’ve all been evident, but so too has a renewed vocal presence. Van Dijk, who won this award in 2018-19, has led by example and by instruction. Under Slot, the defensive unit has tightened considerably, and Van Dijk remains the heartbeat of that transformation.
It wasn’t long ago that Ryan Gravenberch was viewed as a promising yet inconsistent talent. This season, he’s been nothing short of a revelation. Slot’s system has unlocked the Dutch midfielder’s full potential — allowing him to operate box-to-box, break lines, and dictate play with a composure that belies his age.

In a midfield reshaped after Klopp’s departure, Gravenberch has not just found his footing; he’s left his mark. His inclusion on the shortlist signals not only his emergence at the top level, but also his importance in Liverpool’s long-term project.
Alongside the Liverpool trio, the Premier League’s shortlist includes Morgan Gibbs-White, Alexander Isak, Bryan Mbeumo, Declan Rice and Chris Wood — each of whom enjoyed standout seasons in their own right. Yet, with three players from one club nominated, the scale of Liverpool’s collective excellence this campaign is impossible to ignore.
Voting remains open until 12pm BST on Monday, 19 May, and the winner will be announced on 24 May. Whether or not any of Liverpool’s stars take home the individual honour, their impact on this season’s title run is already etched into Premier League lore.
