Three key battles in defense, midfield, and attack could be decisive in today’s Serie A match between Roma and Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight Marcus Thuram and Paulo Dybala as the players who could be the difference-makers.

This evening, Inter and Roma face off at the Stadio Olimpico.

This will be the two sides’ first match back from the international break. And it will be a tough fixture to come back in for both of them.

For the Giallorossi, they are facing the reigning Italian champions and the team who are, on paper, the strongest in the division.

And Inter, on the other hand, will hardly be underestimating Roma.

The club from the Italian capital may have had a difficult and inconsistent start to the season.

But under Ivan Juric, the Giallorossi have made themselves a very hard team to play against. They will look to bring the physical battle to Inter for the whole ninety minutes at the Olimpico.

Three Key Battles In Roma Vs Inter Serie A Showdown

In the view of the Gazzetta, there are three individual battles that could be decisive this evening.

Firstly, there will be one duel that is not direct, but fought by players at opposite ends of the pitch.

Marcus Thuram has been Inter’s attacking talisman so far this season. The Frenchman has scored seven goals from seven matches, while captain Lautaro Martinez has had a slow start.

Therefore, Inter will be hoping that Thuram can once again give them the extra edge of quality and decisiveness in the final third.

And for Roma, the talisman in the final third is undoubtedly Dybala.

The former Juventus forward will be back from injury. And he will be looking to prove why he has been the focal point for the Giallorossi for a couple seasons now.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta also identify the battle between Federico Dimarco and Angelino on opposite sides of the pitch as potentially decisive.

Dimarco has become, arguably, Inter’s biggest creative influence from the left-wingback position.

The 26-year-old will search for space both on the flank and drifting into central areas. If he can find it, he will be a huge threat in terms of goals, assists, and passes in buildup.

Former Manchester City man Angelino, on Roma’s left, has become an important player under Ivan Juric.

The Spaniard can play on either the left of a back three, or at wingback. And his pace and energy will be important to the Giallorossi’s efforts to push Inter back on the flank.

Lastly, the Gazzetta identify the physical battle between Nicolo Barella and Manu Kone as an important one in midfield.

Both of the two midfielders will be aiming to establish control in the centre of the pitch.
