Tottenham Hotspur are wasting no time shaping their transfer plans under new manager Thomas Frank, with initial talks reportedly underway to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa from his former club Brentford. As reported by The Guardian, “Tottenham have held initial talks about signing Bryan Mbeumo from Thomas Frank’s former club Brentford and are also interested in bringing his strike partner Yoane Wissa to north London.”
Frank is clearly keen to bring familiarity into his new environment, and who better than two players who contributed 39 goals between them last season? The move signals a desire for instant impact at Spurs, as the club looks to bridge the gap between potential and performance.

Mbeumo’s stock has risen sharply following another productive campaign. His goal return, versatility, and pressing work-rate have made him an attractive target for several clubs. The Guardian reports that “Mbeumo is also wanted by Manchester United, who had an offer worth up to £55m for the Cameroon forward rejected last week and are expected to return with an improved bid.”
Brentford are believed to be holding out for over £60m, a fair price in the current inflated market. Though Mbeumo had been “previously thought to favour a move to Old Trafford,” Tottenham hope that Frank’s personal connection to the player, whom he signed from Troyes in 2019, could tilt the odds.
Spurs’ interest in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo remains, but Mbeumo offers the added benefit of Premier League maturity and positional intelligence.

Yoane Wissa is also firmly on Spurs’ radar. The DR Congo international enjoyed a breakout year, netting 19 league goals and becoming a reliable focal point during Ivan Toney’s absence. With his contract set to expire next summer, Brentford are protected by a one-year extension option, meaning they are under no pressure to sell for a cut-rate fee.
“It is also believed that there have been internal discussions about a move for Wissa,” The Guardian reports, with Nottingham Forest also maintaining interest after a failed January bid.
Brentford are understood to want at least £40m for Wissa, a figure reflective of his growing importance and consistent output.

Frank’s emotional departure has left a void at Brentford. In a heartfelt message, he said: “The time has come for me to move on. But, even as I leave, I know I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford, not just at the football club but with the community and the incredible and loyal supporters.”
While internal candidates like Keith Andrews and Justin Cochrane were considered, The Guardian notes that Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and former Dortmund boss Edin Terzic are among the names being explored externally.
This managerial uncertainty adds another layer to the potential exits of Mbeumo and Wissa. Whoever comes in will be tasked with steadying the club after losing not just a manager, but potentially its two top scorers as well.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have taken legal action against Jim Ratcliffe’s company Ineos Automotive, filing a commercial claim over a terminated sponsorship deal. While details remain limited, Ineos stated: “We have a contractual right to terminate our partnership contract and in December 2024 exercised that right.” Spurs declined to comment.
This is the kind of ambition fans want to see. There’s no hiding behind projects anymore. The appointment of Frank shows a commitment to building something solid, and the pursuit of Mbeumo and Wissa suggests they want goals, energy, and cohesion up front, quickly.
Supporters will appreciate the familiarity these signings would bring. Frank knows how to get the best out of both players, and they, in turn, understand his tactical philosophy. That’s no small advantage in a league where adaptation time can cost points.
For Brentford fans, there’s understandable concern. Losing both attackers, plus a beloved manager, could destabilise the club. Yet there’s trust in Matthew Benham’s model and his ability to unearth new gems. If the reported fees are met, £60m for Mbeumo, £40m for Wissa, the funds could help kickstart the next phase.
Still, replacing 39 goals is no small task. And for now, Brentford’s short-term outlook rests on who they bring in next, both in the dugout and on the pitch.
