Thiago Alcantara likely to turn down Barcelona offer | OneFootball

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has been keen to bring in staff that can link him to the club, and show him the ins and outs of the behemoth. After bringing in Heiko Westermann as a German-Spanish bridge for his staff, his latest target is recently retired Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The 33-year-old has left playing behind due to a persistent hip injury, and Flick, who had spent a year at Bayern with Thiago, was keen to have him join his coaching staff. The pair spoke about the prospect, with Flick keen for the ex-La Masia midfielder to act as a link between the squad and the coaching staff, and another coach fluent in German and Spanish. Marca say that Thiago is not convinced by the offer though, and while he is willing to help out at certain points, he is not so sure about becoming a full-time staff member. Thiago will take some time to work out his next step, and while he liked Flick’s pitch, he is reticent to accept currently.

Thiago certainly has the perfect mix of experience of both German football and Spanish football to understand exactly what is required and the transition that might be required. He also has an impressive list of managers, including Jupp Heynckes, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp, that he has worked under.
