“They don’t care” – Man Utd icon blasts INEOS for ‘ridiculous’ decision

INEOS have hardly endeared themselves to the Manchester United supporters following a string of unpopular decisions, and Paul Scholes echoes the Reds’ frustration with the minority owners.

Since taking over the day-to-day operations at the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his collaborators haven’t been afraid to implement drastic measures in their vigorous attempts to cut costs. This includes sending 250 employees packing, reducing Christmas bonuses and raising ticket prices.

Perhaps the supporters would have been more tolerant had they seen positive results on the pitch, but with Ruben Amorim’s men lingering in the bottom half of the table, the mood at Old Trafford is at an all-time low.

For his part, Scholes brought one the fan within him, as only a player who spent his entire playing career at Carrington could. The 50-year-old insisted that INEOS have yet to achieve a single positive thing since taking over the club a year ago, while labelling the ticket prices as ridiculous.

“Sixty-six pounds for a ticket is ridiculous. If you think of Manchester, there are so many deprived areas and Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself is from Failsworth, which is a deprived area,” said the legendary midfielder during his appearance on The Overlap Fan Debate (via The Telegraph).

“If you take one kid with you, that’s £120, if you take a family, you’re looking at £300-400 – it’s not right.

“They [Ineos] have been in charge [of United] for nearly a year now and everything is still negative. I can’t think of something positive that they’ve done for the football club.”

Scholes insists that these hefty prices certainly do not correspond with the quality of football displayed on the pitch, which proves INEOS simply don’t care about the fans.

“Things are getting worse on the football pitch so couldn’t they have just said that they’d do cheaper tickets – couldn’t they just give us something positive? How can you ask Manchester United fans to pay more money with what’s on the football pitch?

“Where do these owners get the front to put ticket prices up for what we’re watching? For the value, we’re probably having our worst-ever Premier League season and they’ve got the cheek to put the prices up.

“There is nothing positive happening with that football club. The team look bang average. They’re not doing anything for fans.

“If we’ve got Sir Jim Ratcliffe, compared to all these American owners, who’s been a United fan since growing up in an area in Manchester, he’s still hiking prices up… it just shows that they don’t care.”
