Three returnees boost United ahead of the Europa League final

Ruben Amorim said Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, and Diogo Dalot will be in Manchester United’s squad for Wednesday’s Europa League final.

Yoro’s injury was the most minor of the three, though he and his defensive partner Dalot were both thought to be set to miss the tie as they recovered, but both were pictured in training before United flew to Bilbao.

Also making a shock appearance was Netherlands international Zirkzee. Amorim had said he would be out for the season after he suffered a hamstring injury at St James’ Park in April, telling the media: “He will not play again this season, let's prepare him for the next one.”

But the United head coach has now admitted that all three recovered quicker than expected as they pushed to return to fitness ahead of the final. They are set to be included in the squad, but will likely start on the bench.

Speaking ahead of the match, Amorim said: “They are limited for their minutes in the game but they can help us to win the game.

“They recover quite well, they push.

“We respect the feelings of the players but push a little bit because they want to be a part of the team.”

United have endured a difficult season in the Premier League, currently sitting 16th with one match remaining, but they could still qualify for next season’s Champions League with a win on Wednesday against a similarly injury-hit Tottenham, who are without their most creative players in James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Lucas Bergvall has also been ruled out. Spurs have been boosted, though, by the returns of Heung-Min Son Pape Matar Sarr.
