Messi also leads the way for assists, with 12 to Ronaldo’s one.

Ronaldo has more headers — two to Messi’s one — while Messi is the only one to score a hat-trick in any of those meetings.

There have been two meetings at international level, with Messi scoring one and assisting one, and Ronaldo also scoring once.

Those two games, a 1-0 win for Portugal and a 2-1 win for Argentina, are the only two times the pair have played against each other in friendlies.

The first meeting between Messi and Ronaldo saw Barcelona held to a 0-0 draw by Manchester United in the 2008 Champions League semi-final first leg. United, with Ronaldo, won 1-0 at Old Trafford to seal a place in the final.

And the last time the players met saw Ronaldo have the last laugh, scoring two penalties to help Juventus to a 3-0 win in December 2020. The victory saw Juve top their Champions League group ahead of Barcelona.
