One of their targets, Fikayo Tomori, revealed why he rejected Tottenham at the time.

Despite the Spurs' last-minute signing of Mathys Tel, the team had another player in their sights towards the end of the window, but the deal couldn’t be completed.

The target they had in mind, and who interestingly also comes from AC Milan, was centre-forward Santiago Gimenez.

According to reports from Calciomercato, the 23-year-old Mexican could have chosen Spurs, as the club made a strong effort to secure his services.

The outlet also mentions that Tottenham were looking for players who could add more goals, which is why they turned their attention to him.

However, journalist Daniele Longo revealed that Gimenez had 'already given his word' to AC Milan before Spurs made their approach, so naturally, he turned down their offer.

Santiago Gimenez has made a strong start with the Rossoneri.

The Mexican, who was transferred for €35 million from Feyenoord to AC Milan in January, has played two matches and scored in both.

Spurs are in safe hands with Mathys Tel

Undoubtedly, the international could have been a great addition to the North London club, but with Tel’s arrival, it seems they’ll be in good hands.

Mathys Tel, who had 253 minutes of Bundesliga action before joining Tottenham, fits into Ange Postecoglou’s system thanks to his versatility.

By the way, the signing of Tel was somewhat controversial at the time, as it was rumoured on several occasions that the young player had rejected the offer made by Tottenham.

However, much to his relief, once the deal was completed, manager Ange Postecoglou came out to say that these rumours were completely false.

Being young doesn’t take away from the great things he could achieve with the team, so we’ll have to wait and see how the manager integrates him and how this translates into goals.
