Vivianne Miedema has been named in the Netherlands squad for Women’s Euro 2025.
The Netherlands have named their Women’s Euro 2025 squad, as they prepare to play in a group which includes England and Wales.
Vivianne Miedema is one of 10 players from the Women’s Super League (WSL) who are part of the 23-player squad.
The Dutch won the tournament in 2017, but were knocked out by France at the quarter-final stage three years ago.
Netherlands have the chance to make amends for that defeat, given that France are their final opponents in Group D.
Going into the tournament, the Netherlands are No 11 in the latest edition of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings. This puts them behind England (5th) and France (10th). This suggests that the Netherlands could have a tricky time in making the knockout stage in Switzerland next month.
Sarina Wiegman’s England squad will come up against a lot of players they are familiar with when the Lionesses take on the Netherlands.
Vivianne Miedema was part of the side that won the championship in 2017, and will again lead the line.
She is joined by Manchester City teammate Kerstin Casparij and Jill Roord – who recently left City to join FC Twente.
Wieke Kaptein makes the squad after being named as a nominee for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year award.
She is joined by Chelsea teammate Veerle Buurman, as well as several names from rival London-based WSL clubs.
Arsenal pair Daphne van Domselaar and Victoria Pelova make the squad along with Tottenham’s Lize Kop.
Dominique Janssen (Manchester United), Chasity Grant (Aston Villa) and Katja Snoeijs (Everton) also make the squad.
The Euro 2025 fixture schedule shows that the Netherlands will meet England on Matchday 2 of Group D, on Wednesday, July 9th, at 5pm (BST) in Zurich.
Wales will be the first team to face the Dutch on July 5th. The Netherlands will face their Euro 2022 conquerors France in the final group game on July 13th.
The tournament itself runs from July 2nd up until the final on July 27th in Basel.
England are one of the favourites to win the tournament so will be expected to make it out of Group D.
According to the best UK betting sites, England are second favourites to win the tournament at 3/1 – ahead of France at 9/2.
This puts England and France as the two expected teams to make it out of Group D.
The Netherlands are 16/1 to win the trophy. Meanwhile, Wales are the biggest underdogs out of the 16 teams in the competition, with odds of 200/1.
