The longest unbeaten runs in La Liga history

5. Real Madrid – 31 Games

Real Madrid went 31 games without losing in La Liga during the late eighties, with the bulk of their undefeated run coming during the 1988/89 season. After concluding the previous campaign unbeaten in their final three games, Los Blancos did not lose in the following season until April 15th.

The loss at Celta Vigo ended their 31-game sequence without losing, though was the only defeat of a memorable domestic campaign. Leo Beenhakker’s side completed a Spanish treble after winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

4. Barcelona – 31 Games

Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona team is often recognised as the greatest club side in history. A phenomenal footballing outfit, the Catalans won three straight titles and two Champions League trophies between 2009 and 2011.

Barcelona went 31 league games without losing in 2010/11. After a shock setback at home to Hercules in their second game of the campaign, La Blaugrana won 19 of their next 20 games and did not lose again until late April. Their run included an 8-0 win at Almeria and unforgettable 5-0 thrashing of arch-rivals Real Madrid.

3. Real Sociedad – 38 Games

Real Sociedad’s record for the longest unbeaten run in La Liga lasted more than 40 years, after a 38-game run between 1979 and 1980.

Sociedad ended the 1978/79 season with a six-game unbeaten run before stretching that record deep into the following campaign. The Basque Country club lost just once all season in La Liga, though incredibly missed out on the title. Real Madrid finished just a point above La Erreala, who drew 16 of their 34 league games.

2. Real Madrid – 41 games*

Real Madrid’s current run is the second-longest unbeaten run in La Liga history.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have not lost since being beaten in the Madrid Derby 13 months ago, losing 3-1 with former forward Alvaro Morata on target twice for Atletico Madrid.

It was the only defeat of Real’s title-winning season and Los Blancos are now 41 without defeat. Celta Vigo are up next, before a mouth-watering El Clásico with Barcelona on October 26.

1. Barcelona – 43 games

Barcelona hold the record with 43 games unbeaten. The Catalans’ streak began under the management of Luis Enrique, before Ernesto Valverde continued the run after his appointment in 2017.

The latter led Barcelona to the title in his debut season in charge, losing just once all season. Valverde’s side ended the campaign 14 points clear of runners-up Atletico Madrid.
