We’re five games into the 2024/25 Premier League season and fans have had their first chance to examine the potential title challengers.

Manchester City are aiming for a record-breaking fifth Premier League title in a row this season and Pep Guardiola’s team has taken an early lead at the top. The Citizens drew with Arsenal in an early-season match-up between last season’s top two, who had the measure of one another at the Etihad.

Just two points separate the current top four with the usual contenders making up the chasing pack.

As we approach October, we’ve looked at the latest changes in the bookmakers’ fancies. Using odds from the Hollywood bets app we’ve looked at the five favourites to win the 2024/25 Premier League title.

The favourites to win the 2024/25 Premier League

Aston Villa – 66/1

Aston Villa sit third in the table having taken 12 points from 15 available. Unai Emery’s team performed above all expectations last season to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, earning a place in UEFA’s top club competition for the first time since 1983.

Despite the exits of Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby in the summer, Villa look well-placed to challenge for the European places again. Morgan Rogers and Jhon Duran are growing in confidence, while Amadou Onana has hit the ground running after his arrival from Everton.

Emery’s side also made a strong start to their Champions League campaign with an impressive 3-0 win at Young Boys.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur can also be found at 66/1.

Chelsea – 25/1

After two turbulent seasons since Todd Boehly’s takeover at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will be hoping this is the campaign their expensive but inexperienced squad can show progress.

Enzo Maresca has come in as head coach after leading Leicester to promotion last season and has become the first Premier League manager since Pep Guardiola in 2016 to win each of his first three away games.

Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have started the season in strong form for the Blues, who sit a point outside the Champions League places after five games.

Liverpool – 11/2

Liverpool are in the midst of change after Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp in the summer. The decorated nine-year reign of the former came to an end after Klopp’s decision to step down and Slot has been handed the tough task of following on from the German.

He’s made a solid start with Liverpool winning four of their first five fixtures, with a shock slip-up to Nottingham Forest at Anfield the only blemish on the Dutchman’s record to date. Despite a lack of transfer activity in the summer, Liverpool look the likeliest challengers to last season’s top two.

Arsenal – 6/4

Is this the year Arsenal end their wait?

Mikel Arteta’s team have come agonisingly close over the last two seasons, spending a record 248 days at the top of the table in 2022/23 before just falling short. Last season, the Gunners missed out on the title by just two points in another anguishing near miss.

Arsenal have improved season-upon-season under Arteta and appear to have the right profile of squad to continue that trajectory. Boasting one of the best defences in Europe and a league-leading set-piece threat, Arsenal can end their 24-year wait for the Premier League in 2024/25.

Manchester City – 27/20

Manchester City remain the team to beat in the Premier League this season, following their record-breaking fourth successive league title last time out. It’s now six of the last seven titles for Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side who have dominated domestically under the Spaniard’s management.

Rodri’s season-ending ACL injury is a huge blow to the Blues, though the return of Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona has added much-needed depth in midfield.

Erling Haaland’s form undoubtedly makes City favourites with the Norwegian at his unstoppable best over the season’s opening weeks. Haaland reached a century of goals for the Citizens at the weekend with his 10th in just five league games this season. Unsurprisingly, that’s another goalscoring record the 24-year-old has claimed.
