Matchday 2 continued in Major League Soccer on Sunday with two games on the schedule. Here is what went down in the United States and Canada.

What happened

The first result of the night sent a shock throughout the Western Conference (and perhaps the entire league) as defending champs LA Galaxy suffered their second loss in as many games.

Canadian defender Sam Adekugbe crashed the box and stabbed home the opener in the bottom left corner after less than three minutes.

However, the Galaxy struck back just before half-time when Gabriel Pec was left unmarked and easily converted.

The winner arrived at the death when an in-form Brian White headed home his third goal of the week after a brace in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Then our attention turned to the Eastern Conference action.

It didn't matter that Inter Miami had no Lionel Messi (something the Houston Dynamo apologized to fans for earlier in the week) as new names shone for the Herons.

Telasco Segovia (21) secured a brace for the club while a fantastic solo run and rocket left-foot finish from Tadeo Allende was sandwiched in between.

Luis Suarez ensured the three points would return to Florida by adding a fourth after dancing past three defenders and finishing from close range.

Nicolas Lodeiro, meanwhile, managed to pull one back for Houston late on with a left-footed shot from the top of the box as things finished 4-1.

Unfortunately for Miami, Ian Fray was shown a straight red card after the full-time whistle following a reported altercation.

Player of the day

He eventually got his name on the scoresheet, but throughout the entire 90 minutes, Luis Suarez was the brains behind the victory.

The 38-year-old set up all three of Inter Miami's goals showing his veteran leadership skills before rounding out the win.

Not a bad Sunday evening for El Pistolero.

Stat of the day

A nod to a Canadian club shining early on!

What this means

It's obviously early on in the season so take all the following with a grain of salt.

The Western Conference sees Vancouver in second behind San Jose Earthquakes. Meanwhile, LA Galaxy and Houston are sitting second last and bottom of the table respectively, both on zero points alongside Sporting KC.

Over in the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami sit third behind leaders Philadelphia Union and Columbus Crew after their first win of the season. The Herons are level with Charlotte FC.

What comes next

MLS action returns on Saturday with a staggering 13 games. OneFootball will bring you all the action again then!
