A look at the four Queens Park Rangers players who could depart the club this summer.
Like a lot of clubs in the Championship this summer, Queens Park Rangers have experienced a bit of a rebuild as they seek to improve once again next season.
The R’s drifted to an underwhelming end to the 2024/25 campaign, with Marti Cifuentes being placed on gardening leave before their final game of the season against Sunderland and the Spaniard, who has now been appointed by Leicester City, didn’t officially depart Loftus Road until late-June.
He has been replaced by former Stade Rennais boss Julian Stephan, who has earned himself a reputation for an easy-on-the-eye style of football and an excellent ability to work with and develop young players.
QPR have let a few players leave west London this summer, with Charlie Kelman sold on to fellow Londoners Charlton Athletic after his impressive campaign in League One with Leyton Orient last year.
In terms of incomings, Amadou Mbengue has arrived from Reading with Kealey Adamson signing from Macarthur alongside moves for Kwame Poku and Rumarn Burrell from Peterborough United and Burton Albion respectively.
There has been a focus on developing an impressive and dynamic, younger squad at Loftus Road this summer, and that should lead to some more business this summer. Football League World has looked at a few of the players who could depart QPR between now and the close of the transfer window.
In May, midfielder Jonathan Varane signed a new contract at QPR after an impressive first season in England’s capital city, following his move from Sporting Gijon last summer.
The 23-year-old Lille-born Martinique international has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs recently, with La Liga outfit Espanyol having most recently made an offer.
QPR appear to be resolute in their position that Varane won’t depart, with the midfielder missing their recent pre-season trip to Spain due to injury, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him finally leave.
Another midfielder who may be departing, but more as a result of him being completely on the periphery at Loftus Road, would be attacking midfielder Taylor Richards.
Having joined on a permanent basis from Brighton and Hove Albion a couple of years ago, the young Englishman has struggled to get much game time or fluency at QPR due to a lack of form, as well as injury.
He spent last season on an underwhelming loan stint to Cambridge United, who were relegated from League One, and it would be no surprise to see him leave again, either on loan or on a permanent deal.
In contrast to Richards, young striker Alfie Lloyd is someone who QPR may be willing to allow to leave on loan as a result of trying to get him key first-team minutes as a youngster of some promise.
The former Yeovil Town attacker made 27 appearances in the Championship for QPR last season and notched a couple of goals, with plenty of League One interest now stirring in the 22-year-old.
Having joined from Liverpool in 2022, 24-year-old Elijah Dixon-Bonner could do with his career being reignited with the QPR midfielder struggling for any sort of game time anywhere.
He spent a portion of the first-half of this year on loan at Swedish second-tier outfit Vasteras, and he has also been linked with a move to Carlisle United, who were relegated to the National League last season.
