According to Bild, the 55-year-old has struggled to get a handle on multiple issues both on and off the pitch, and his limited time in office has already eroded his internal credit.
It is also suggested that a discussion about his future could emerge once the transfer window closes, with the upcoming international break providing a natural moment for a potential change.
It remains "completely open" whether ten Hag will be in charge for Leverkusen’s next Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt on 12 September.
The club’s turbulent start to the season has compounded the pressure. After an only partially convincing 4-0 DFB-Pokal win against SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, Leverkusen suffered a surprise 1-2 home defeat to Hoffenheim. In Bremen, Bayer led 3-1 after just over an hour but conceded twice in the closing stages, dropping what seemed a certain three points.
Captain Robert Andrich didn’t hold back, saying: "Everyone played for themselves, everyone ran around alone on the pitch. We have too many people who are preoccupied with other things or only with themselves. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that at Bayer." He added pointedly about ten Hag: “The coach is the one at the top. He has to bring the most calm from above. But in the end, we are the ones on the pitch”.
The mounting pressure leaves ten Hag in a precarious position just weeks into his tenure, as Leverkusen seek stability after a significant squad overhaul.
