Takumi Minamino (30) extended his contract at AS Monaco on Tuesday, committing to the Principality club until 2027. The Japan international says he wants to stay at the club for “as long as possible”.
Minamino struggled for form in the wake of his €15m move from Liverpool back in the summer of 2022, however, he bounced back in the second campaign, registering 15 goal contributions (nine goals, six assists) in 31 games in all competitions. He has carried that form into the current campaign. The Japan international currently has six goals and five assists in 33 games this season, making him an important part of the forward line at the Stade Louis II.
However, there was uncertainty regarding his future with his old contract set to expire at the end of the season. Having signed a one-year extension, his future has now been secured. Minamino evoked his extension during a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
“I am very happy about [my extension]. I want to stay here as long as possible. The club offered me a one-year contract and I am very happy about this. I feel the trust in me from the club and that is the most important thing for me. I feel belief from the coach, the staff and the club so that is why I signed here,” he began.
Now 30-years-old, is there a chance of Minamino remaining at Monaco for the rest of his career. The former Liverpool forward responded: “I want to stay as long as possible here because it is an amazing club. I also want to play every season at the top level in Europe. After this contract, I will be 32. We will see.”
