The Republic of Ireland striker could soon be on his way to South Wales
Swansea City are plotting a transfer move for Celtic striker Adam Idah, with developments generating a rather mixed response from supporters north of the border in the process.
The Swans have started the season in respectable fashion in what is Alan Sheehan's first full season in charge of the club, accumulating four points from their first three Championship encounters against Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Watford, as well as progressing into the third round of the EFL Cup.
The new boss has been fairly busy during his maiden transfer window, with the South Wales outfit making several shrewd signings, including captures of Zedaine Inoussa, Cameron Burgess and Kilmarnock's highly-rated young striker, Bobby Wales.
However, it is clear that the club remain in the hunt for further experience and depth in attacking areas, with Idah able to provide both given his experiences at Parkhead and, previously, with Swansea's divisional rivals, Norwich City.
Swansea's interest in the Republic of Ireland international was first broken by Alan Nixon via Patreon on Wednesday night, with a report outlining that Idah's services could become available on a loan or permanent basis after his struggles to become a first-team regular were coupled with the Hoops' well-documented UEFA Champions League exit on penalties in the play-off round to Kazahkstan-based side, Kairat.
Nixon also stated that Idah would be given the chance to weigh up the potential move to the Swansea.Com Stadium after a mixed one-and-a-half-year stint with the SPFL giants, who parted with a £9.5m sum to lure the striker away from Carrow Road last summer after an initially successful loan move in February 2024.
It has since been claimed by Football Insider that Swansea are in 'advanced talks' to secure a 'multi-million pound' transfer ahead of Monday's 7PM transfer deadline as they look to add further firepower behind the likes of Wales, Liam Cullen and Zan Vipotnik.
Yet, whilst Swansea supporters are likely to be ecstatic by the ambition showcased by their club amid talks of potential moves for CF Montreal's Sunusi Ibrahim and Lorient's Sambou Soumano ahead of Wrexham and Blackburn Rovers respectively, there are some of a Celtic persuasion who are equally as delighted by Idah's pending Glasgow departure.
In total, the 32-time international has featured 76 times for the Bhoys, scoring 29 times and posting a further three assists in the process, which doesn't exactly represent the worst goal return in the world.
Idah also gave Celtic supporters some memorable moments, including a 90th-minute winner in the Scottish Cup final against 'Old Firm' rivals, Rangers in May 2024 at Hampden Park. However, some of a Green and White persuasion feel as if he is yet to fully justify the hefty price tag paid to Norwich 12 months ago.
One Celtic supporter stated: "One of the worst signings in our history, Idah should be told he’s 3rd choice striker for the foreseeable, then it’s up to him. You’d hope a player in that situation would take the hint. But we’d need to sign at least one other striker, can’t see it."
After Nixon's aforementioned report reached social media, another issued the response of: "Someone drive him to Swansea tonight."
Another Celtic fan believed that whilst Idah has been far from perfect, former Swans boss, Brendan Rodgers, hasn't exactly helped his cause, claiming: "If it happens watch him rip it up down there. Guy gets hardly any game time BR depending on the Dyson (Daizen Maeda) too much. The guy's confidence is in his boots."
Another was shocked to learn of Swansea's strong interest, saying: "What’s made Swansea watch him and think “yeah that’s what we need” ?"
It is clear that Idah hasn't left the greatest impression on Celtic supporters in recent months, meaning all parties are set to benefit from this potential transfer agreement, especially Swansea if he can rekindle the form of six goals in 28 appearances in Josh Sargent's absence during the first half of Norwich's 2023/24 play-off bid under David Wagner.
