Sunderland are on the verge of signing Chelsea’s goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The newly promoted club has been active in the summer transfer market as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
They have already agreed to sign left-back Reinildo Mandava this summer. Habib Diarra and Enzo Le Fee have also joined the club.
Petrovic is their top target to come in as the club’s new number one.
The €25 million deal to bring Petrovic to Sunderland is reportedly nearing completion. The 24-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract.
Petrovic joined Chelsea from New England Revolution in 2023, but has failed to establish himself at the club.
He was loaned to Strasbourg last season, where he kept 10 clean sheets and played a key role as the French side finished seventh in Ligue 1.
His performances have drawn attention from several clubs, but Sunderland are close to winning the race.
Petrovic will become Sunderland’s second major signing this summer after the move for Mandava.
Sunderland are keen to secure their priority targets early in the transfer window, allowing the squad time to gel.
The Black Cats believe Petrovic’s arrival will add quality to their backline.
Current goalkeeper Anthony Patterson helped the club win promotion to the Premier League, but looks set to head elsewhere this summer.
