Eveliina Summanen has been named your HSBC Player of the Match after her stunning strike secured a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Women’s League Cup on Saturday afternoon.
At the heart of everything in our midfield, the Finland international collected her second award of the campaign as she came top of a poll of votes submitted by our supporters via our Official App.
With chances few and far between in the hour, Eveliina stepped up with a moment of quality to break the deadlock at Brisbane Road, picking out the top right corner of the net from almost 40 yards out, leaving Villa’s goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo no chance.
Her composure in the middle of the park helped us see out a resurgent Villa side in the closing stages of the game as we claimed our second win in the competition and currently sit top of group E ahead of the final round of fixtures next month.
