Strasbourg centre-back Ismaël Doukouré (22) has been excluded from Liam Rosenior’s senior training squad over his refusal to extend his contract with the Alsatians, according to a report from L’Equipe. The 22-year-old has entered the final months of the four-year deal he signed when he joined Strasbourg from formative club Valenciennes. Doukouré has featured in all but three Ligue 1 games as Strasbourg defied the odds and very nearly qualified for the Europa League.
The outlet reports that the 22-year-old has been sent to train with Strasbourg’s reserve team as a way to pressure him into signing a new contract. Doukouré, an accomplished centre-back who can also fill in as a defensive midfielder, previously tried to force his way out of Strasbourg to sign for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg last summer, but the club’s owners, BlueCo, blocked his exit.
Doukouré already turned down a contract renewal proposal from Strasbourg and talks with Chelsea have been unsuccessful.
