Lamine Yamal may only be 17, but he is already building a fascinating history against Real Madrid.

Despite his youth, the Barcelona winger has faced Los Blancos five times in official competitions—three times as a starter—and the numbers tell an intriguing story of growth, impact, and potential.

The first two encounters came early in his rise, both off the bench. In those appearances, Yamal managed just 20 and 30 minutes, respectively.

He attempted two dribbles, completing only one, and left no significant mark on the games. Real Madrid won both, 2-1 in La Liga and 4-1 in the Spanish Super Cup.

At that stage, Yamal was still getting a feel for high-pressure matches like El Clasico.

Evolution through experience

However, everything changed once Yamal began to start. His first full appearance in a Clasico was at the Santiago Bernabeu in a narrow 2-3 loss in La Liga.

Matched up against Eduardo Camavinga, Yamal forced the Frenchman into a yellow card by the 33rd minute. He attempted five dribbles and completed four.

Ultimately, Camavinga had to be taken off midway through the second half, as Carlo Ancelotti decided to introduce Fran Garcia.

Against Garcia, he experienced mixed success, winning one duel and losing another.

In the next Clasico, a heavy 4-0 win in La Liga, Yamal was statistically subdued—just one successful dribble from six attempts. But the numbers don’t tell the full story.

In the 77th minute, with Barcelona winning 3-0, he stunned the Bernabeu by scoring a thunderous goal with his right foot. Once again, Mendy was subbed off for Garcia in the 86th minute.

In the most recent Super Cup, Mendy once again felt the heat. Yamal got the better of him in the 21st minute, breezing past before equalising moments later with a moment of brilliance.

Mendy lost two of his three defensive duels, which shows these are no longer just promising signs, as they are recurring patterns involving the Barcelona prodigy.
