Real Madrid’s only pre-season match ended in a comfortable 4-0 victory over WSG Tirol, but much of the post-match discussion centred on Vinicius Jr’s performance.

Wearing the captain’s armband, the Brazilian showed commitment and energy, yet his attacking contribution left fans debating his role on social media.

Some even suggested that Rodrygo, whose future at the club remains uncertain, appeared to link up better with Kylian Mbappe than Vinicius did.

In Austria, Vinicius failed to register either a goal or an assist in the four goals Real Madrid scored. While his pressing on the opposition defence played a part in one of the goals, his attacking numbers were unusually quiet.

Most notably, he did not attempt a single shot, on or off target, and did not complete a dribble. Apart from passes, the only other statistic in which he registered a figure was fouls suffered, having been brought down twice.

Early concerns ahead of La Liga opener

The season is only just beginning, and Vinicius is coming off a short summer break, but the lack of attacking impact will be something Xabi Alonso keeps an eye on.

Real Madrid have no time to ease into form, with their La Liga campaign starting next Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu against Osasuna.

While Vinicius struggled to make an impression, other teammates used the pre-season fixture to send a strong message, including Rodrygo.

Furthermore, Mbappe, playing alongside him in attack, scored twice and looked sharp, while Eder Militao impressed on his return from injury, showing defensive solidity.

Vinicius will have the chance to respond quickly when the competitive season begins. With Mbappe and Rodrygo both showing signs of good understanding, the Brazilian will need to reassert his place as one of Real Madrid’s most dangerous weapons.
