Robert Vilahamn says his side’s full focus is on the Barclays Women’s Super League ahead of our clash with Leicester City on Sunday afternoon (2pm UK).
After a memorable evening in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last weekend, progressing to the last four of the competition for the first time in our history after a penalty shootout success over Manchester City, the attention returns to league action as we look to close the gap on fifth-place Liverpool, who have a six-point margin on us.
The Foxes arrive to Brisbane Road in a good run of form since the turn of the year, winning six of their nine games in all competitions, and have matched their points tally from last season already, having played seven less games.
Having been drawn at home to the Foxes in the semi-final of the FA Cup earlier this week, Robert was clear to share that the focus is on this weekend’s meeting and the importance of the fixture.
Speaking in his pre-match conference on Thursday afternoon, the boss said: “You can see this as good preparation for the semi-final but, on the other hand, this is a fixture in the Women’s Super League and it’s an important game because they can go above us in the table.
“We need to be 100 per cent focused and I know the players want to compete and be better every day. I’m really clear that we will put in a good performance and have full focus on the league game."
When asked about the change of approach from the Foxes with Jennifer Foster and Stephen Kirby set to lead the side, Robert said: “We are concentrating on how we play and how we want to develop but, of course, when there has been change then there could be tweaks.
“However, the ones in charge look to be doing some of the same stuff and did very well against Liverpool. Although, that doesn’t change much for us in terms of how we prepare for the game and the possible scenarios.”
