Dominic Solanke has been included in the England squad for October’s UEFA Nations League fixtures with Greece and Finland.
It’s a first inclusion for Solanke since he made his England debut in 2017 and reward for a strong start to the season at Tottenham Hotspur, where he has scored three goals in six appearances.
The 27-year-old was a prolific goalscorer for England at youth level and won the Golden Ball as the u-20 side won the World Cup in 2017. Following that triumph, he made his senior debut in a friendly against Brazil in November 2017 but has not been called up since.
Solanke signed for Spurs in a club-record £65m deal in the summer after scoring 19 league goals for Bournemouth in 2023/24.
However, he was not named in the squad for Euro 2024 under former manager Gareth Southgate, with Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney all preferred.
According to The Athletic, there is no place for Solanke’s club teammate James Maddison, Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, or West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen.
Maddison has not featured in an England camp since being cut from the provisional squad ahead of the summer’s European Championship.
Interim boss Lee Carsley has also not named Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers despite a clamour for a maiden call-up. The 22-year-old will be with the u-21 side again during this month’s break.
