As per a recent report from TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs to show interest in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov, along with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
The 22-year old can play either as a number eight, a number ten, or even out wide, and has compared his style of play to James Maddison and Phil Foden. He has scored seven goals in just 14 Ukrainian Premier League appearances so far this season, and has an impressive 23 goals in 87 appearances during his domestic league career to date.
As well as his goals, the Shakhtar number ten is quite a dynamic player, and averages 3.4 dribbles per game, at an 86% success rate in the league so far this season. On top of that, he averages 4.7 ball recoveries per game, showing he also has a tenacious side to his game. Ideal for someone playing as a box to box midfielder.
Most of the Ukrainian international’s football this season has been as the left sided central midfielder. Whilst Dejan Kulusevski has the right sided central midfield role locked down, it feels like that left sided role is up for grabs. We have seen Maddison (ironically) play there a lot, but also Pape Sarr more recently, depending on the type of game and opponent Spurs are playing.
According to the said report, Spurs had scouts at the Champions League game between PSV Eindhoven and Shakhtar last week, where the Dutch side managed to win the game, despite being 2-0 down after 86 minutes of the game. Sudakov played the 90 minutes, and has played 439 minutes in the competition so far this season, scoring once and providing an assist.
Furthermore, it is reported that he is ready to leave Shakhtar, who seem to value him at around £50 million. With a contract until 2028, they are not in a position to be backed into a corner and forced to sell for anything less than what they value him at, so that could be a stumbling block in negotiations.
Despite being just 22 years of age, Sudakov has already racked up 26 caps for the Ukraine national team, adding three goals on top of that. The midfielder has also played in the Champions League in 5 separate seasons already. He is a player with plenty of experience, whilst still of course being someone who can still develop further over the coming years.
