Josep Martinez is in line for his maiden Inter Milan appearance in Thursday’s Coppa Italia showdown against Udinese.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Spaniard could replace Yann Sommer between the sticks.
Martinez joined Inter from Genoa in July for a reported fee of €13 million plus add-ons.
However, he has played second fiddle to the Swiss veteran this season.
Indeed, he remains the only first-team star at Giuseppe Meazza, who Simone Inzaghi has yet to play this term.
That will probably change tomorrow.
Inter signed Martinez as a viable alternative for Sommer.
The club intended to integrate the 26-year-old stopper into the starting line-up gradually.
But Sommer has been indispensable between the sticks, denying his understudy a chance to showcase his skills.
Martinez will likely have a chance to prove his worth to Inzaghi against the Friulians.
Given the Swiss ace’s form, there’s no margin for error.
Indeed, Martinez must be at the top of his game to convince the Inter boss to play him more regularly in the coming months.
Nonetheless, the ex-RB Leipzig keeper should get more minutes next season.
If everything goes to plan, he should succeed Sommer in goal in 2025/26.
