Southampton have rejected a £27 million offer from Everton for highly rated teenage winger Tyler Dibling (h/t the Times).
Dibling has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Fulham, West Ham United and Aston Villa.
Everton tabled an opening offer, which was knocked back. The Toffees are considering an improved £35m proposal, which they feel will get a deal over the line.
Dibling has two years left on his contract and was reportedly valued at £100m by Southampton at one stage.
However, the club will do well to get half that amount, especially in the wake of their relegation to the Championship.
Everton’s pursuit of Dibling stems from their desire to inject more creativity and attacking threat into the squad.
Manager David Moyes recently made it clear that further reinforcements were needed, despite the arrival of four new signings after Adam Aznou’s move to Goodison Park was finalised.
Everton also have Jack Grealish on their radar, although any chances of a move will depend on Manchester City’s willingness to sanction a loan move.
His wage demands are another potential issue, while several other clubs are also interested.
Everton have been beaten in three straight warm-up fixtures ahead of their penultimate pre-season encounter against Manchester United on Sunday.
