The former Reims and Lens boss has linked up on the South Coast on a three-year deal and has returned to his homeland to be closer to his family.

The 32-year-old is tasked with delivering immediate promotion back to the big time and then helping to consolidate the Saints’ place as an established Premier League outfit for years to come.

So far during the summer transfer window, Southampton have recruited two players, with Joshua Quarshie and Damion Downs linking up from Hoffenheim and Koln respectively.

Still will be hopeful of adding more players to the ranks to stamp his authority on the playing squad, as there are now only four weeks until the first ball is kicked of the new campaign.

With this in mind, FLW rounds up the latest news surrounding Southampton.

Will Still offers Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong future updates

New Southampton boss Will Still has reiterated that Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong both have futures at St Mary’s.

Brereton Diaz had a dismal term on his return to the Premier League, failing to record an attacking contribution from 10 league outings. Armstrong, meanwhile, spent the second half of the season on loan at West Brom but couldn’t get on the goalscoring trail back in the Championship, netting just three times from 16 appearances.

During the summer, both players’ futures have been called into question, with Southampton reported to have been considering an exit for Armstrong this summer.

Despite this, Still has rebuffed those claims, insisting the duo are part of his plans moving forward.

As per the BBC, Still said: “Those two (Brereton Diaz and Armstrong) definitely do [have futures at the club] and I’ve had good conversations. They can be as important as they want to be really. It’s up to them if they want to be a part of it.”

Norwich City record interest in Southampton’s Charlie Taylor

Norwich City have registered an interest in a summer move for Southampton’s Charlie Taylor.

Pink’Un reporter Samuel Seaman has revealed that the former Burnley defender is a target for Canaries boss Liam Manning, who linked up at Carrow Road from his previous Bristol City post.

The 31-year-old Taylor enters the final year of his contract with the Saints, so it would make sense for the South Coast-based club to sanction an exit to earn some funds from a deal.

Taylor played only eight times in the Premier League last season, with injuries hampering his 2024-25 term.

According to journalist Anthony Joseph, Southampton are set to rival Watford for the capture of Volendam centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba.

The Hornets are believed to have been admirers of the 23-year-old for the last few years, along with Celtic and Sampdoria.

The Saints are also firmly in the running, with Volendam expected to cash in on the defender, who has appeared 75 games for the club and has his contract expiring next summer.

According to a report by TBR Football, newly-promoted Sunderland are set to place Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as a top target to take over from Anthony Patterson.

Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris is reportedly keen to replace Patterson, with Ramsdale regarded as a viable successor.

TBR Football outlined that Sunderland are stepping up their efforts on Ramsdale, and they have already had contact with his representatives, who in principle have confirmed he is open to moving to the North East.

Southampton are believed to have agreed to let Ramsdale leave and return to the Premier League, with the Saints not opposed to a loan move.
