Chelsea are once again looking at a potential deal to sign one of the Premier League’s most imposing centre backs this summer.

The Blues recalled Trevoh Chalobah to the back line in the January window but other than that, they didn’t do much at all really.

The transfer window closed a couple of weeks back now and it was a very bland and strange one for Chelsea. They only made one signing and he is a player who is just expected to play as a deep backup option this season and then probably go on loan in the summer.

Other than that, Chelsea just loaned a bunch of players out with the only permanent one being Cesare Casadei to Torino in the end.

Our own writer Simon Phillips has the latest news on new centre backs that Chelsea are looking at in his latest sourced article on his Substack site.

Chelsea looking at Branthwaite again

Jarrad Branthwaite in action for Everton.

Phillips reports:

‘So, SPTC sources continue to give us the two Bournemouth centre backs Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen as real targets for the summer.

‘The two from Benfica – Tomas Araujo and Antonio Silva.

‘Obviously the Marc Guehi interest remains, and Chelsea will ask for a new price for him in the summer and then make a decision if they want to go for him or not.

‘And perhaps the two more unrealistic options of Ruben Dias of Manchester City, and Leny Yoro of Manchester United, with both now on our centre back shortlist.

‘But the ‘new’ name who is not actually a new name because we have reported interest before, is Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

‘He returns to our radar and has been spoken about again very recently as a genuine centre back option that the club are seriously looking at making an approach for in the summer.’
