The one thing Ibrox Noise is definitely amused at the potential news of Russell Martin being appointed Rangers Manager is the ‘give him a chance FFS’ crew coming out and defending and justifying the appointment. This lot are always around ready to defend and justify whatever person is appointed Rangers Manager no matter how abundantly poor the choice is. Even though online polls do actually show the true picture of the vast, vast majority around 95% against Russell Martin, and nevertheless that noisy 3-5% are very loud at the give-him-a-chance rhetoric.
We understand that it is about supporting the club. Yes, we agree with the base notion of this, but we do also agree with the base notion of critical thinking. If Neil Lennon was appointed Rangers manager with assistant coach of Lou Macari, we highly doubt that Rangers fans would still back him, or maybe some would.
There is a blindness from some fans whereby no matter who is appointed or what the club does, it is always give him a chance, FFS, that’s it. End of story. There is no further justification or clarity of thought or critical thinking. And this crowd are very much jumping into all commentary on Russell Martin with the same rhetoric.
Had we left Barry in charge, the guy who had about a 30% win ratio, the worst of all time, then Lord knows where Rangers would be now. It would be even worse than it already is. But of course, the give him a chance FFS crew would nevertheless be backing him. They would be defending every mistake. They would be defending him by case of the players he has at his disposal, despite of course Clement getting a 62% win ratio with the same players.
The point is there are some that are so blind that will not see. There are few in the Rangers support who are this bad, but there are some. And we do believe that this blind support is not in the best interests of the club. You have to have a thought. You have to have the ability to critically judge for yourself. And yes, some of them may truly believe that Russell Martin is a great manager, but the reality is the vast majority and his career suggest that is not the case. But in the end, these people will still say give him a chance, no matter who and no matter what.
It’s just the way it is.
