Manchester United rode their luck at times but a superior second half showing meant they eventually emerged 2-0 victors against Brighton and Hove Albion in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday.

Goals came from Diogo Dalot, who is in contention to win the Player of the Season award, and substitute Rasmus Hojlund who has now scored in two on the trot.

Despite the win, the Red Devils ended the season in eighth spot, their lowest Premier League finish ever and means they have missed out on European football altogether through their league placing.

Erik ten Hag’s style of play this season has been rightly criticised but another allegation that needs to be levelled at him is his questionable talent identification with regards to what was needed for the club.

Amrabat poor again

Antony is the best example but at the Amex Stadium, it was once again made clear why the club have decided not to make Sofyan Amrabat’s loan move permanent.

The Moroccan was brought in on deadline day with the pair having worked together in the past, but the Fiorentina man has proved to be a disastrous signing.

Against the Seagulls, the 27-year-old lost 80 percent of his duels as the hosts focussed their pressing on the Morocco international who yielded at the slightest bit of pressure.

He lost possession nine times, and despite what many on social media have claimed, Amrabat does not deserve to start the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Technically, he does not look comfortable turning and receiving the ball and is too slow for the English game. He gave away one foul and also saw his name taken by the referee.

Shouldn’t start vs City

Pep Guardiola’s team would have a field day if Amrabat starts, and he was directly responsible for one of City’s goals in the last Manchester derby.

The Qatar World Cup hero did not make a single tackle in the game and most of his 40 passes were either sideways or backwards (all stats via sofascore).

He is a hard worker and does a decent job defensively but for a team like United, that should never be enough. Especially for the figures pre-decided in his loan agreement.

Casemiro has struggled in his sophomore season in England but he should definitely start as the deep-lying playmaker against Pep Guardiola’s men at Wembley next Saturday.
