Sofyan Amrabat is set to remain in England despite Manchester United being unwilling to sign him permanently once his loan deal expires at the end of the season.

The Moroccan international joined United from Fiorentina on deadline day last September after a protracted pursuit extending across the entire summer, at the behest of Erik ten Hag.

Old Trafford officials eventually reached a compromise with their Italian counterparts as an £8.5 million loan deal with a £21.4 million purchase option was agreed. But it’s a reflection of the underwhelming season Amrabat has experienced in Manchester that there is zero indication the club are looking to exercise this clause this summer.

While this is not necessarily exclusively his fault, given Ten Hag’s side have struggled enormously across the board this year, it is clear Amrabat does not possess the requisite speed or technical skill to thrive in midfield at a top club.

United are correct to be looking at other midfield options this summer as the club seeks to overhaul the first-team squad after a historically poor season.

However, these struggles have not put off clubs further down the league, with not one but two teams expressing an active interest in signing the Amrabat this summer.

The Sun reports both Crystal Palace and Fulham have scouted the 27-year-old midfielder in recent weeks, with their recruitment teams impressed by their findings.

United travelled to Selhurst Park two weeks ago and were subject to a 4-0 mauling at the hands of Oliver Glasner’s rampant side.

Despite this onslaught, sources at Palace reveal the London club were impressed by Amrabat, who came off the bench just after the fourth goal went in. Palace were unable to add to their tally with the Moroccan on the pitch.

Similarly, The Sun corroborates reports previously relayed by the Peoples Person of Fulham’s interest in Amrabat, with the Cottagers setting plans in motion to replace João Palhinha – the Portuguese midfielder previously wanted by both Bayern Munich and Liverpool, who came extremely close to joining the German club last summer.

Amrabat’s current deal with Fiorentina expires in 2025 meaning he will be entering the final year of his contract this summer. The Moroccan also departed Florence in unceremonious terms and La Viola will want to offload him permanently to free up funds elsewhere.

As such, both Palace and Fulham are likely to be able to strike a bargain deal for a player seemingly not wanted by either his loan or parent club.
